Transportation Master Plan

Lafayette County, City of Oxford, & University of Mississippi Transportation Master Plan
Local officials and consultants to seek community input this Thursday at the Oxford Conference Center

Lafayette County has experienced dramatic change over the past 20 years. Population growth, increased enrollment at the University of Mississippi, and commercial development along major roadways – like West Jackson Avenue – have put tremendous pressure on the City and County’s transportation network.

With this in mind, the City of Oxford has been working with Lafayette County and the University to develop a “Transportation Master Plan” that will provide direction on transportation projects for the next 20 years. Based on citizen input, best practices, and a technical assessment of the transportation system, the Master Plan will identify existing problems, set priorities for transportation projects, and identify short-term, mid-term and long-term improvements.

At a public hearing to be held at the Oxford Conference Center on Thursday, May 2, from 5 - 7 p.m., residents can view the draft plan, hear a presentation from the consultants who prepared the plan, and provide input that will be considered in finalizing the plan. The final plan will be presented to the City of Oxford, Lafayette County, and the University of Mississippi this Summer for adoption.
