Fire Hydrant Flow Testing

Over the next several months, the Oxford Fire Department will be conducting Fire Hydrant Flow Testing on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Up to two (2) fire crews will be inspecting and flushing between 30 – 40 fire hydrants each day to measure flow rate, identify repair needs and pinpoint hydrants not in service. This may result in browning of residential and commercial water, which should clear in 4 to 6 hours.

This is a necessary procedure to ensure our Municipal and Fire District grading for the City of Oxford is maintained or improved under Mississippi State Rating Bureau requirements. As such, water supply systems including water mains and hydrants, along with inspection and flow testing, account for 40% of the grading.

The Oxford Fire Department and the City of Oxford Public Works Division will publicize the specific neighborhoods or areas that may be affected by Fire Hydrant Flushing & Testing on the City of Oxford website, Facebook, Twitter and WTNM (Super Talk MS 93.7) for the Gary Darby show to relay this information.

We apologize for any inconvenience. The City of Oxford is committed to having the most comprehensive, efficient and safe water system to protect the lives and property of our citizens.
