PDF of this information

Recycling drop off locations are available for residential use, one at the Municipal Center (City Shop) on Molly Barr Road beside the Police Station, a second on Highway 7 South next to Fire Station #3 and also at the Recycling Center at the City of Oxford Landfill on County Road 321 (Pea Ridge Road).  Business and Industry need to use the Recycling Center on Pea Ridge Road.  Bins for each recyclable: Aluminum Cans, Steel Cans and Plastic, Mixed Paper, Newspapers, and Cardboard.  Here are some tips for using your Oxford-Lafayette Recycling Drop Off Locations.

Interesting Facts about Recycling and the Environment

Each ton of recycled paper saves 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water, and 4,100 kilowatt hours of electricity.

Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a television for three hours.

Manufacturing new aluminum cans from used beverage containers uses 95% less energy than producing them from virgin materials, an energy saving equivalent to tens of millions of barrels of oil each year.

Bins are available for each recyclable: Aluminum and Steel Cans, Mixed Paper, Newspapers, Cardboard, and Plastic. Here are some tips for using your Oxford-Lafayette Recycling
Center:

Aluminum and Steel Cans
All aluminum and steel cans are accepted.  Most aluminum cans are viewed as soda cans; some pet food cans are also aluminum.  Steel cans like food cans, shaving cream, deodorant and some pet food cans are all accepted.  Please rinse all cans and put them loosely into the recycling bin (no paper or plastic bags).  The recycling center has equipment that will separate the cans.  No Styrofoam blocks or Styrofoam peanuts.

Plastic (look for one of the following symbols on the bottom of the package):

PETE #1 and HDPE #2 plastic are accepted.  PETE #1 plastic examples are soda bottles, water bottles and some food containers. HDPE #2 Plastic examples are milk jugs, detergent bottles, and other food and liquid containers.  The type of plastic is usually printed on the bottom or side of the item within the recycling symbol.  Please put all plastic loosely into the bin (no paper or plastic bags).  Please do not put any other type of plastic into the receptacle.   Cans and Plastic share a bin and are sorted at the Recycling Center.

Mixed Paper
The mixed paper bin is for all types of paper other than newsprint.  Examples are magazines, junk mail, paper sacks, catalogues, paper folders, envelopes, computer paper, copy paper, and non-corrugated boxes can go in this bin.  Please put all paper products loosely into the bin (no plastic bags or cardboard boxes).

Newspaper
Clean, dry, non-bound newspaper only.  Inserts that come in the newspaper are acceptable.  Please put all newspaper loosely into the bin (no plastic bags).

Cardboard
Cardboard must be broken down to save space, one unbroken box takes space away from others.  NO Styrofoam blocks or Styrofoam peanuts.

NO GLASS!

NO STYROFOAM!

Reducing Junk Mail (paper mail)
Reduce the amount of junk mail you get by contacting the Mail Preference Service, c/o Direct Marketing Association, 6 East 43rd St., New York, NY 10017, and asking them to remove your name from mailing lists that are sold to companies.

1-888-5-OPT-OUT (1-888-567-8688)
When you call this number, you may request to have your name and address removed from national credit bureau lists that are sold to the credit industry. The three national credit reporting agencies-- Experian (formerly TRW), Trans Union, and Equifax-- will remove your name for a two-year period from any list provided to others relating to any potential consumer credit transaction that you did not initiate. You will have to provide some personal information and follow the directions you receive from a prerecorded message. If you follow these directions, your name should be removed from these lists within five business days.

You may even ask to have your name permanently removed by requesting that the credit bureau send to you an "election form." This form, when filled out and returned by you, will remove your name and address from credit bureau mailing lists until you notify them that you want to be placed on these lists again.

Federal and state laws include many other provisions to protect consumers. Watch for future Consumer Alerts for more information concerning your rights as a consumer when seeking or being offer

If you have any questions please call 232-2745.   Large quantities are accepted at the Recycling Center.  If you are unsure or think it might be gross, please do not recycle it! Volunteers are always needed.
