City Parks and Recreation Facilities

FNC Park at Oxford - Lafayette Fields Currently under construction!  This major new development will be one of the premier soccer, baseball, and softball facilities in Mississippi. FNC Park will feature over 75 acres of state-of-the-art soccer, baseball, and softball fields to handle city, county, and tournament participants.

Oxford Skate Park
Located on Bramlett Boulevard, the skatepark is highly ranked among visiting and local skaters.

Avent Park  
Located on Park Drive, it includes four lighted tennis courts, a picnic pavilion, walking trail, baseball field, playground and quiet areas. The new state-of-the-art, community-built playground is located here.

Stone Park    
Stone Park is located at 423 Washington Avenue (across from City Pool) and features a park pavilion, recreation center, playground area, and a softball field.

Price Hill Park

Located on Price Hill Road, the park consists of a baseball/softball field, park pavilion, playground, spray pool, and an outdoor basketball court.

Lamar Park    
Located on Old Sardis and Country Club Roads, Lamar Park is Oxford's newest park. It is 63 acres of trees and grass for walking or jogging. The park features a 7.6-acre pond stocked with fish and a jogging/bicycle trail.   Lamar Park is named in honor of former Mayor Patricia C. Lamar.

Stone Center    
Stone Center is located at 423 Washington Avenue beside Stone Park and contains a multipurpose center with kitchen, storage rooms and an office. This center is available for rent and will seat (without tables) 200 people.

Oxford Activity Center    
The Activity Center is located on the corner of Price St. and Molly Barr Road. It features two indoor basketball courts, a gymnastics room, multipurpose rooms, and a racquetball court.

The John Leslie Tennis Complex  is located next to the Activity Center which features eight lighted tennis courts. The courts are open to the public.

Oxford Swimming Pool
Located on Washington Avenue the pool is an Olympic-size pool, and features a wading pool and picnic area. The pool is handicapped accessible.


Sardis Lake Recreation Areas
Sardis Lake, MS, on the Tallahatchie River, is known for its sand beaches and fishing opportunities. A State Park (see link below) with swimming pool, recreation hall, cabins and a golf course is located at Sardis Lake.  Besides the State Park, there are 15 other recreation areas dotted around the lake, with Clear Creek, Coontown Landing, and Hurricane Landing being the closest to Oxford.  See the Sardis Lake Recreation Area Page for more information on what is available at these and other areas.
 
Holly Springs National Forest Recreation Facilities
The Holly Springs National Forest covers over 155,000 acres and is just a short distance away from Oxford.  The National Forests are managed for many differant resources and uses. 

Trails
North Cypress Non-Motorized Trail
- A lovely 3 mile long loop trail in the Upper Sardis Wildlife Management Area.  This is the only trail on the National Forest that allows horseback riding.  The trail crosses over the newly renovated dam on North Cypress Lake.  There are new trailhead facilities.  The trail is open to all no-motorized uses.  From Hwy. 7 N, turn east on Hwy 30, go 9.5 miles and turn right on road number 2073.  No fees charged.

Baker's Pond Hiking Trail
- A beautiful walk in the woods to Baker's Pond, the headwaters of the Wolf River.  The walk is approximately 1.5 miles round trip.  From Oxford, take Hwy 7 N through Holly Springs to Hwy 72.  Turn east on Hwy 72. From the corner of Hwy 72 and Hwy 5 go 10 miles further east, turn right on Tower Road (there is an old fire tower there), then bear right again to the trail head.  No fees charged.


Nearby Mississippi State Parks

Wall Doxey State Park
- Everything from primitive camping and RV camping areas to air conditioned cabins are at Wall Doxey.  A visitor's room offers meeting and banquet facilities.  Other amenities include nature trails, picnic areas, playground, and playing fields, disc golf, and a boat launch area.   From Oxford, take Hwy 7 N towards Holly Springs,  Wall Doxey is about 20 miles north of Oxford, on the west side of Hwy 7.

John W. Kyle State Park
- Accommodations include primitive camping and RV facilities, and cabins.  A visitor's room offers meeting and banquet facilities.  A junior Olympic size swimming pool is located near the cabin area.  Picnic areas and shelters include views of the lake and barbecue grills.  Other amenities include nature trails,  playing fields, tennis courts, a golf course, and a boat launch area.   From Oxford, take Hwy 6 W towards Batesville approximate 17 miles,  then take Hwy 315 N to the state park.

Nearby National Parkway

Natchez Trace Parkway - The 444-mile Natchez Trace Parkway commemorates an ancient trail that connected southern portions of the Mississippi River, through Alabama, to salt licks in today's central Tennessee. Today, visitors can experience this National Scenic Byway and All-American Road through driving, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and camping.
